Our Model
We believe in running a non-profit like a professional corporation in any way possible – and by that, we mean an organizational structure and culture, rules, standards, professionalism, transparency, goals and results.
To ensure the sustainability of the projects we run, there are several guidelines that we adhere to:
- Selection of Villages: In selecting a village to assist, initial buy-in from the village head must be established. On top, the village should have a positive attitude towards education and is willing to receive help/support.
- Involvement from the very beginning: Villagers and the local community must be involved in the project from the start – whether it is donating a room, land space, labor force and materials to build the library, teachers or librarians, the village must own the project. We are making it possible to start.
- Presence of a strong Regional Leader: The Regional Leader is responsible to create pre-buy -in with the Village Head, assist in setting up the Library, monitor its progress and be Books for Hope’s representative.
- Low Overhead Cost: We aim to maintain a low overhead cost by partnering and clustering. We actively look for sponsors for air tickets, courier services, accommodation, etc. By clustering, we try to set up several libraries in several villages in the same region. Far enough to avoid redundancy, and near enough to visit in each single trip.
- Clear, measurable and reported results: Donors in-kind or in cash will be reported of how their contribution is spent in measurable, reported results. There will be a plaque in each Library listing the names and country of origin of donors to the Library – be it through books, funds, construction materials, courier or other forms of sponsorship. These results will be posted online bi-monthly.
