On March 8, 2009, the Books for Hope team went to Cilincing area to donate 200 books to the local library. The library was located near a dirty river and it was built some times ago by other organizations who also see the essence of education. We realized during our Weekend Enrichment Workshop at Cilincing that the children in this village is far more exposed and knowledgeable than the other villages we have visited! They could for example, sing a German song, and were more aware of Indonesia as their country. The Books for Hope team was amazed, and realized that this is probably the effect of all the external aid that this village has received. Once again, this reinforces our sense of cause for our work – that it does impact children’s lives for the better.
Our team that weekend consisted of 2 volunteers from Singapore. They both work in investment banks and were glad to spend half a day away from city life to bring some value into these children’s lives. 35 children attended the program and they gained new knowledge through role-playing, coloring, singing, and story telling.
We hope that these children’s lives will continue to be changed through the knowledge that they obtain through good books and the better teaching methodologies.
