A group of Jakarta-based Management Trainee of the Development Bank of Singapore submitted a proposal on Books for Hope’s libraries to the ‘Happy Ever Asia’ CSR fund in DBS. The proposal won SGD2000 for the setting up of 3 libraries in Tangerang and Bali. Not stopping here, the enthusiasm from the DBS MT team led them to design Books for Hope mugs to sell; resulting in USD 1000. The team of 10 together with their managers went with us to the Karangsari Village in Tangerang and conducted their first ever field CSR!
PwC is one of our main corporate partners. Under its People Who Care division, PwC donates books to our libraries. In the pipeline are also plans to adopt some of our libraries where employees can carry out community services as part of PwC’s employee development and CSR initiatives.
Books for Hope is working together with Microsoft to bring more than books to remote villages. We aim to equip students and teachers with basic computing skills through Microsoft’s Multipoint software where students are able to interact with one and another through interactive classroom activities. Teachers will also be trained to create teaching applications through the software. Our first pilot projects starts in Q1/ 09.
Kagayaku Logistics is our courier partner for the Malaysia – Indonesia route. Living by their belief to make a difference in everything they do, the CEO has offered to sponsor all book shipments from KL to Jakarta. As a result, the children in our villages get to enjoy high-quality English books from foreign publishers. This adds greatly to the effectiveness of our libraries.
Werks is a Kuala Lumpur-based boutique branding consultancy. They are giving branding design and consultancy services to us on a pro bono basis. Thanks to Werks, we have a logo that is both approachable and impactful.
A social enterprise based in Jakarta, Reading Bugs aim to improve the reading habits of Indonesians through the ‘read aloud’ method. The organization trains parents methods on reading better to children. Some of these parents put their skills to good use in our village libraries where they bring exciting stories toour story-telling workshops.
One of Indonesia’s largest online book stores, kutukutubuku.com works with us to design book packages for sale to benefit out libraries. They are also one of out biggest supporters in books supplies.
