Weekend Enrichment Workshop

Weekend Enrichment Workshop

Often in rural areas of developing countries, the government neglects on the quality of teachers and administration of teaching. A typical day at school will involve a classroom-style lesson delivery and children returning home with homework. At home, there is no parental guidance from parents on children’s homework since most parents are farmers, fishermen or house helpers who themselves did not have the chance to receive basic education. As a result, children are often neglected after school hours and are found wandering around the village aimlessly.

In response to this issue, Books for Hope conducts Weekend Enrichment Workshops (WEW) in our Libraries. WEWs are conducted on weekends by Teacher Volunteers. These volunteers come from all over the country – they often are already teachers, or undergraduates from local universities who would like to do some community services. Volunteers are given a training session by our team and Chief Program Development Officer on advanced teaching methods and a briefing of own Books for Hope Workshop Series.

Our Workshop Series uses a Thematic Approach through story-telling, drawing, coloring, reading, singing, writing and interactive fun and games. The same syllabus will be used for all villages throughout the country. The syllabus is designed by incorporating important moral values, and vital skills such as logical thinking, creative thinking, teamwork and analytical skills.
